Ce tableau est une huile
sur toile du XVIIe siècle qui appartient au genre du paysage. Aert Van
Der Neer est un peintre hollandais qui a principalement travaillé
sur la lumière et l’atmosphère d’une nuit enneigée ou de
pleine lune. Celle-ci est la seule toile où le point de lumière (la
lune) est au centre du tableau. Il décrit une atmosphère brumeuse
avec la lumière particulière de la lune. Il y a une symétrie
apparente entre les arbres et bâtiments à gauche et à droite,
ainsi qu’entre le lac et le ciel nuageux. Les deux moulins à
gauche évoquent les Pays-Bas bien que il n’y a aucune indication
du lieu. Le lieu est très « petit village autarcique menant une vie insouciante ». Il est
désert, excepté les deux pêcheurs dans leur barque.
Il ressort de ce tableau
une atmosphère triste, mélancolique. On a envie de rester là mais
on sait que l’on va bientôt partir. C’est comme si l’observateur
était heureux d’être ici mais avec une pointe de regret,
d’amertume. Le tableau est à la fois inquiétant et apaisant.
Apaisant grâce à la lumière, l’environnement, la barque sur
l’eau. Ces éléments font penser à la tranquillité, aux bons
côtés de la vie. Mais cette tranquillité semble fragile, on ne voudrait pas qu’elle disparaisse. Peut-être
est-ce à cause des nuages, ou bien à cause de la forme de la berge,
qui semble prête à se refermer? Ce tableau fait beaucoup appel au
subconscient...

This picture is an
oil painting dating from the 17th century and belonging to the "Landscape" genre. Aert Van Der Neer was a Dutch painter who
mainly worked on the light and the atmospheres of winter or moonlit
nights. This is his only painting where the light (here the
moon) emenates from the center of the picture. It describes a misty
atmosphere with the particular light of the moon. There is an obvious symmetry between
the trees and the buildings on both sides, but also between the lake
and the cloudy sky. The two windmills to the left evoke the
Netherlands, but there’s no other place indication. The village is
typical: a self-sufficient carefree little village. It is deserted, except for the two fishermen in their
boat.
A sorrowful and melancholic ambiance comes out of this painting. One wants to stay but one also knows that one will have to
leave soon. It is as if the observer was happy to be there but with a
pinch of regret. The picture is both worrying and soothing. Soothing
thanks to the light, the environment, the boat on the water. Those
elements make one think of the good things in life, the tranquility.
But this tranquility seems fragile, one doesn’t want it to stop.
Maybe it is due to the clouds, or to the shore which seems ready to
close in on itself. This painting does affect the subconscious a lot…
